What you can expect as part of your personalised tour:
I will leave a welcome letter for you at your hotels reception.
I will be waiting for you at the agreed time, usually 9am. I will share the route details with you. Identify key point on the road map. Then make sure you are comfortable in my Ford Galaxy MPV before setting off for a fabulous day out in Yorkshire!
On a Yorkshire Dales day, we would head up the A1M, the longest road in the UK, pointing out the White Horse of Kilburn. Describe how the Romans came up here on Ermine street to Hadrians Wall. We would then turn off for Richmond, with its Georgian Theatre and the largest cobbled market square in the country.
Our route now takes us alongside the fastest river in the country, The River Swale (meaning Swift) rugged and spectacular, a photographer’s delight as we climb out of the dale over Buttertubs Pass. From the lead industry of Swaledale, we descend into the wider agricultural dale of Wensleydale.
This is the only dale not named after a river! It is more famous for its cheese, Racehorses and the world’s most famous Vet, James Herriot! We stop in Hawes to taste its cheese, lunch stop here or Leyburn. Our route takes us off the A684 to discover where the TV series “All Creatures Great and Small” was filmed in Askrigg and Redmire.
Then its Bolton Castle, where Mary Queen of Scots was first imprisoned in 1568. Next place is Leyburn (market day Friday) if there is time left in the day we can wander down the A6108 to Ripon and onto the famous spa town of Harrogate before taking the A59 back into York to your hotel for 5pm or later if you so wish!
